I have been teaching children guitar for 15 plus years, which I love to do. Over the years I have also developed a unique practice around music making, using my studio as more of a playground than a place expecting specific results and correct technique.
Through music making I explore sound, ideas and feelings 1-1 with kids aged between 6-12. Some days we write and record songs - exploring lyric writing and the construction elements of a song- Some days we improvise. Some days we develop foley sounds for cartoon clips, to explore how instruments and everyday object can be used to create familiar yet conceptual sounds accompanying image.
All classes are built around the specific child’s interest and curiosity. I see music as a tool to be curious about the world and our day to day lives rather than something to project expectation onto children with. Saying that, if a child wants to learn specific techniques, songs, and has a goal in mind, we will prioritise that.
‘Will creates a wonderfully relaxed, creative space where children can follow their curiosity for music without pressure’ Parent of 8 year old
‘Will makes me laugh and I enjoy making songs together. He’s the best’ - Edie (aged 8)
‘Will is really good because we don’t just play one instrument, we play loads. I love making our own music about anything and with everything’ - Niko (aged 7)
‘It's all very inventive and fun’ - Parent of 10 year old
